Vampires
updated 12/29 powers myths
immortal creatures who survive by DRINKING THE BLOOD OF THE LIVING, vampires have been around for thousands of years. the name vampire was popularized in western europe in the 18th century after reports of a mass hysteria based on folk beliefs that lead to corpses being staked and humans being accused of vampirism. also known as SHTRIGA in albania, VRYKOLAKAS in greece and STRIGOI in romania, in modern times blood-feeders have accepted the name vampire and made it their own.

the first vampire was created by the daemon prince LUCIFER in a pact for immortal life in the very early 1200s, and have propagated throughout the world since then. vampires are extremely sensitive to the sun's light and can only be killed by prolonged SUN EXPOSURE, a WOODEN STAKE through the heart or through DECAPITATION. a new vampire can be made by draining the blood of a human and replacing it with the blood of a vampire. the human body will die, and a vampire will rise the next night.

a vampire's body is eternally trapped at the age they were turned, with their minds continuing to age. the older a vampire becomes, the stronger, more agile, and more in tune with their powers they become. while all vampires are strong, an older vampire might be able to lift more weight than a freshly turned vampire. some vampires will lose mental faculties as they age, depending on their feeding schedules and how many vampires they have sired.

vampires sustain themselves on the blood of the living and have to feed at least twice a month from either a human or an animal. while a human will always be the best taste, some vampires prefer to live a vegetarian lifestyle in feeding from animals. vampires do not need to fully drain or kill their prey to feel full, though some choose to. a vampire can feed from most any creature with a pulse, and will find different tastes based on what type of creature they are drinking from. if a vampire goes without feeding they will become extremely physically weak and their bodies will age rapidly, essentially husks of themselves, but a vampire cannot die of starvation.

to become a vampire a human must be fully drained of their blood, and must drink from the blood of their maker. these two vampires will henceforth share a special bond, able to sense one another through a telepathic link, and the maker will be able to compel their progeny to do their bidding. this bond is only broken if the maker vampire says the sentence "as your maker, i release you" which will release their progeny from all compulsion to follow their maker's commands, and severe the telepathic link between them forever.

powers

STRENGTH vampires possess innate strength they could have never achieved in life, able to surpass the strength of 50 men.

AGILITY a vampire possesses inhuman speed and agility, able to cross distances in a blink of an eye or scale sheer surfaces with ease. this also allows them to jump quite far, which some humans have mistaken for flight.

STAMINA vampires are able to move at great speeds for long periods of time, and do not tire as humans do. sleeping is optional, and vampires do not require oxygen or food, though eating food does not make them ill.
SENSES a vampire's senses are supernaturally heightened to help form them into an apex predator. a vampire can see with perfect clarity in the dark, with hearing compared to that of a bat and a sense of smell that allows them to sense blood from miles away.

GLAMOUR through the use of a form of hypnosis, vampires can soothe the survival instinct in humans for easier feeding, or encourage humans to look past what is right in front of them, but cannot completely suppress free will.

HEALING vampires possess innate healing, with cuts, bruises and other human afflictions healing near instantly. this extreme cellular response is also what is believed to stop the aging process.

myths

MIRRORS contrary to a lot of tales, vampires can be seen in mirrors thanks to the fact that most modern-day mirrors are not made from silver.

PHOTOS likewise, in this new age of digital photography vampires can be photographed.

SILVER while silver will not kill a vampire, they are allergic to it in a sense, it is uncomfortable to be near and wearing silver jewelry or touching silver items will burn a vampire's skin.

SHADOWS vampires do cast shadows, though they are very rarely in enough sunlight to do so.

SLEEPING IN COFFINS vampires also do not need to sleep in coffins, or over the soil of their native lands, rooms with sufficient black-out curtains and a regular bed will suffice just fine.
FANGS a vampire's fangs are retractable, and are positioned above the canines. when a vampire feeds they extend up to 2 inches to better sink into their victim's flesh.

FEEDING APPEARANCE whilst feeding vampires do not change their appearance, there is no facial disfigurement, jaw dislocation, etc.

INVITATIONS a vampire is unable to cross a threshold unless invited. once invited they can come and go at will, but should this invitation be revoked, they will need to be invited in once again.

sunlight sunlight is supremely poisonous to a vampire, and should be avoided at all costs. layers of clothing will not help, and any skin exposed to sunlight will nearly immediately begin to burn. very very old vampires, might be able to withstand a bit longer in mild uv exposure, but for the most part sunlight should be completely avoided
